<<Philosophy: Made For Hawaiʻi>>

United Islands is a small independent brand making high-quality limited-run apparel specially designed for life in Hawaiʻi.  We like to say that United Islands is “Made For Hawaiʻi.”  What does that mean exactly?  We mean it in a few different ways actually.

1. Function & Style

“Made For Hawaiʻi” means clothing with island-oriented design that works for Hawaiiʻs unique climate and culture.  That functional element is key.  In the same way that the aloha shirt is the quintessential expression of Hawaiian style and comfort, we aim to create other garments that just seem to “make sense” for the 808.

2. A Better Hawaiʻi

Another goal for the company is simple: to help make a better Hawai‘i. 

Well, what does that look like?  It starts with donating 100% of profits from sales of our signature Hawaiian RH Shirt to Hawai‘i-based charitable causes, especially ones related to Hawaiʻi's most precious asset: the ʻāina (land). It also means products made as responsibly as possible. That is, the best materials & craftsmanship. Unwasteful manufacturing processes. Local production when possible.

We decided to forgo the traditional wholesale model (with retailers, brick & mortar stores) in order to provide you more value for your money and to have more direct communication with you. 

We also don't operate on the seasonal fashion calendar.  Rather, we believe in so-called “slow fashion.”  More purposefully developing high-quality clothes that wear in, not out. 

This also means we move much more slowly than other companies…by design.  We don't mind taking our time if that means everything gets done right.
